Sustainability is Our Main Goal

On a worldwide scale, agriculture is facing one of its hardest challenges: to produce enough fresh, nutritious food to accommodate the needs of present and future populations. Additionally, the protection of the environment and human health are also at stake.

A core principle of the Landmark Training Development Team is to use research and hands-on training to implement innovative solutions to these sustainability setbacks. We cannot do this alone. This cause requires the participation of farmers, researchers, volunteers, retailers, public officials, and more.

Youth Training

The Youth Urban Farm Training Program is a paid apprenticeship for youth living in Memphis, TN that is run all year around. Apprentices are involved in all parts of nurturing the farm – planting, weeding, harvesting, composting, marketing, outreach, and more. In addition to learning the fundamentals of urban farming, youth will also develop their job and leadership skills, while positively engaging with peers, the community, and the environment. With Landmark, you will:

  • Grow fresh vegetables for the community, while learning about agriculture, food, plants, food justice, and the environment.
  • Develop skills in teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and communication.

Interested in joining the program? Want to include your group, class, or organization? Simply fill out the volunteer form and write: ‘Youth Urban Farm Training Program’ in the Subject Line.

Food Pantry

Landmark Training Development Company created the Landmark Food Pantry to help serve as a solution to food poverty. Families who are struggling financially deserve to have fresh food in their households. We knew there must be a cost-effective way to get food into the hands of citizens that needed it. Here’s what’s great about the Food Pantry:

  • Puts fresh food and vegetables on a family’s table.
  • Helps the environment by directing matter into compost that helps grow more plants, trees, and maybe even more produce for the community.
Farmer’s Market

Landmark Farmer’s Market is a not-for-profit organization whose central aim is to offer high-quality, locally produced food direct from the producer. Farmer’s markets benefit the local environment by reducing packaging, reducing the effects of long distance transport of goods and encouraging small-scale or less intensive production. Landmark Farmer’s Market:

  • Encourages more sustainable methods of food production.
  • Motivates Memphians of all ages to take interest in growing food in urban communities.
  • Shares the joy and connection of knowing just where our food comes from.
  • Advises other farmers on how to market local product and improve food hygiene
